The ESP-IDF doesn't manage the timezone and DST offset across boots. The Moddable SDK ESP32 port provides tools so you can manage that.

  • When debugging with xsbug, the time, timezone, and DST offset are transferred from your computer to the device as part of establishing the debugging connection. This is convenient magic.
  • When there is no debugger connection, the ESP32 defaults to Unix time 0. The Moddable SDK defaults to summer in Menlo Park, which is perfect for me 50% of the time.
  • You can always use Time.timezone and Time.dst to set the timezone and DST offset to the values you want. That information might come from hard coded constants, a stored preference, user input, or the network.…
