qt6 branch testing - logout button doesn't log out of OS

I'm testing the qt6 branch on UbuntuMATE 24.04. I've found that the logoutAction=logout option doesn't seem to be working. The client restarts but the desktop session isn't logged out. I'm using lighdm as the login manager, if that makes a difference (I think it's still the default).

Also just tested logoutAction=reboot, it has the same behavior. Also, it's definitely getting other settings from my Libki.ini file, such as the host and port. Logging in works.

Do any of the commands here trigger a logout if you run them in a shell?

Weird. The command for MATE (mate-session-save --force-logout) does still work. I tested it from both a locked-down patron session and from an unmodified user account. I'll look in the logs to see if I can find out anything helpful.

I don't see anything obvious in either ~/.local/share/libkiclient or in .xsession-errors. :/

Out of curiosity, I tried running the old version of libkiclient we compiled for 20.04 (not sure which version it is) and it does the same thing, so I think it must be something that's changed in MATE or Ubuntu. I'll keep poking to see if I can figure out what.

I haven't tested 20.04, but 24.04 atleast has systemd.

This means that you can control user sessions via the loginctl command

I still have no idea why the logout button isn't working as expected, but I have found a workaround: using the scriptlogout option in the ini file, containing:

[scriptlogout]
enable=1
script="/usr/local/bin/patronlogout.sh"

And /usr/local/bin/patronlogout.sh contains:

loginctl terminate-user patron

I tried using "mate-session-save --force-logout" in the script, but it apparently runs as root because it clobbered the system and left me with a blinking cursor on a black screen, lol.
