renaming variables

Should we rename some variables used in the functions? We now use df, r, and these seem to be better changed?

That shouldn't be hard to do. Any particular reason why, or suggestions on alternatives?

We are using names for things that are functions in R. sd, and alpha, and r, and t. We should change these to something not already a default name taken in R.
