About Kartaverse

This is an academic research project exploring computational imaging techniques. Kartaverse provides a post-production pipeline optimized for the immersive media sector. If you can imagine it, Kartaverse can help you create it in XR!

"Karta" is the Swedish word for map. With KartaVR you can stitch, composite, retouch, and remap any kind of panoramic video: from any projection to any projection. This provides the essential tools for 360VR, panoramic video stitching, depthmap, lightfield, and fulldome image editing workflows.

Kartaverse makes it a breeze to accessibly and affordably create content for use with virtual reality HMDs (head mounted displays) and fulldome theatres by providing ready to go scripts, templates, plugins, and command-line tools that allow you to work efficiently with XR media. The toolset works inside of Blackmagic Design's powerful node based Fusion Studio and DaVinci Resolve Studio software.

Note: The new Reactor Standalone Package Manager allows Kartaverse to work with Resolve Free v15 - v20+, Resolve Studio v15 - v20+, and Fusion v9.0.2 to v20+. This dedicated standalone desktop application version of Reactor helps solve the UI manager scripting dependency issue that was present with Resolve Free v19.1 - 20.

Installation

Kartaverse is a free open-source (GNU LGPL/GPL v3) toolset. It is distributed through the Reactor Standalone package manager. Install the Reactor package manager, and select the "Kartaverse" category on the left side of the Reactor GUI to access the tools.

Kartaverse/KartaVR can be used on personal and commercial projects at no cost. It can be installed, for free, on an unlimited number of computers and render nodes via the Reactor Package Manager. You can even install Reactor + Kartaverse on a shared NAS storage volume to be used across a local area network.

For More Information

Spatial Metadata GUI

The Spatial Metadata GUI allows you to prepare MV-HEVC encoded immersive content for playback on Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest HMDs.

KartaVR for BMD Resolve Studio/Fusion Studio

Kartaverse for Fusion provides a post-production pipeline optimized for the immersive media sector. If you can imagine it, KartaVR can help you create it in XR! Check out the KartaVR video tutorials here.

Kartaverse for Houdini

Kartaverse for Houdini is a port of the Kartaverse open-source XR pipeline tools for SideFX Houdini. Houdini TOPS (Task Operator) automation of Multi-View Stereo and volumetric video workflows are some of the main features of this project.

Vonk Ultra Data Nodes

Vonk Ultra provides a new era of no-code creativity inside of Blackmagic Resolve Studio/Fusion Studio. Data nodes allow you to connect text, JSON, arrays, and matrices to create stunning generative visuals.

The new vMograph tools are the next generation of Vonk Ultra technology that help power dynamic motion graphics. Create data driven graphics with the help of a large collection of modifier nodes, and a fuse-based 2D and 3D vector rendering engine.

Vonk Ultra is a collection of data nodes for Blackmagic Design Resolve/Fusion. Vonk can be thought of as node-based modifiers that live in the flow. These node-based operations provide a no-code alternative to using expressions or custom scripts.

Panotools Data Nodes for BMD Resolve/Fusion

Kartaverse PT is a new set of data nodes that allow live-link access in BMD Resolve/Fusion to PTGui Pro .pts project files. This is the start of a new way to work with panoramic data in Fusion.

Kartascript for Python

Kartascript is a Python module for immersive post-production workflow automation. It provides PTGui .pts JSON file parsing tools.

Kartaverse Learning Resources

Reactor Package Manager Online

An online web accessible version of the Reactor Package Manager content is available.

Reactor is a package manager for Fusion and Resolve. Reactor streamlines the installation of 3rd party content through the use of "Atom" packages that are synced automatically with a Git repository. The Fusion community developed the Reactor software as a group effort to create a single-stop resource that hosts the largest collection of curated content for extending the capabilities of Resolve/Fusion. Reactor also includes a lot of content that was previously available only on the VFXPedia resource.

Note: If you are running Resolve Free, keep in mind Resolve Free v19.0.3 is the final version of Resolve that is compatible with Reactor. Resolve Free v19.1 removed scripting access for GUIs like Reactor.

Immersive Pipeline Integration Guide

A "Kartaverse Workflows | Immersive Pipeline Integration Guide" learning resource is available. The free guide has over 512 pages of content that covers the primary steps required to get a working content creation pipeline established from scratch for artists working at a freelancer, or small boutique studio scale of operation. Additional, expanded chapters cover broader Resolve/Fusion page usage concepts that will help you take your composting and 360VR content creation skills to the next level.

XR LED Panel Database

Kartaverse publishes an open-source database for XR stage displays. If you need to quickly and easily track down the technical specs for XR stage LED panels, video projectors, and more this is the database for you!

Social Media

GitHub Repos

The Kartaverse repositories are available on GitHub.
