Is there no way to get error messages from Memcached server?

I need to understand how to troubleshoot why certain get/set commands are failing. Without any messages from the server, I can't do this. Is there no way to retrieve server error messages from failed get/set commands?

Thanks for the hard work on this. I love how clean and direct the API is.
I would like this feature as well; would also love to see a method to test if there is a connection to the server.
