This is Wine's original registry setup to specify the app you want to target. It includes "AppDefaults". Your suggestion is to basically skip the "AppDefaults" key and just use "game.exe" key under +-Wine? Does it work either way?

There are two ways (both are working):

1. original Wine: HKCU\Software\Wine\AppDefaults\app.exe
2. alternative: HKLM\Software\Wine<app.exe>

Alternative is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, because Win9x has only one real user and can be easily changed by driver inf file. Also I have same schema for Mesa (HKLM\Software\Mesa\app.exe) or OpenGlide (HKLM\Software\OpenGlide\app.exe)
