JATS abstract may not contain <ol> or <ul> or <li>

While we allow abstracts to contain ordered lists <ol> or unordered lists <ul>, these are not allowed within <jats:abstract>. I propose that we should fix this by dropping <ol> and changing every <li> to a <jats:p> instead. We should insert the correct number into each one. The other alternative is to simply replace <ol>,<ul>,<li> by a newline in the XML.

it looks like <jats:list> is allowed inside <jats:p> under <jats:abstract>. This would be consistent with the NIH JATS spec.

In https://gitlab.com/perm.pub/epijats I do an automatic re-normalization of lists directly under JATS <abstract> by moving them into an automatically generated inserted JATS <p> under .

I doubt Crossref is doing some kind of extra schema restriction of not allowing <list> under <p> if the <p> is under <abstract>.

This is a good catch. I was somehow fooled by remembering that <ul> and <ol> are not allowed inside <p> in HTML, but of course this ain't HTML. In our system there is some ambiguity of what would be allowed in an abstract. Some things like \cite or user-defined macros are not supposed to be used, but things like display mathematics are allowed. A full LaTeX to JATS translator is probably too much to hope for. At present we are only using the abstract to report to crossref, and we use the raw LaTeX with MathJax to display it on the web.
