ROSAT demonstration notebook ideas

All ideas I have for ROSAT demonstration notebooks will be placed here, and this issue will eventually act as an parent issue to the sub-issues created for the writing of different notebooks.

X-ray luminosity function for AGN (not sure what catalog yet). Generation of ROSAT products is pretty cheap, as is fitting spectra, so we could conceivably demonstrate this with a pretty big sample.

LoVoCCS cluster sample X-ray luminosity, temperature, and gas mass measurements

Potentially something related to this (https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/1538-4357/adfd5a) SPHEREx idea, using ROSAT to measure soft X-ray luminosities for a large sample, and SPHEREx to identify PAH emission?

Not sure what sample I would select from though.

Figure 4 of that paper shows predicted observability based on K band magnitude (I think?) and star forming rate, could be used to help select a sample from SDSS, DES, etc? Maybe from DESI so there are spectroscopic information?

However, I was initially sort of interested in PAH X-ray relations in AGN, so maybe a big AGN sample to start from?

Do a cut on redshift, use ROSAT to measure luminosities/power law slopes perhaps, then go to SPHEREx and look for PAH lines at 3.3 microns?

This is more of a Fornax notebook than anything else though.

Perhaps the simplest how-to is to randomly select some point sources from the bright source catalog, and measure new properties for them?

Could still sample a large number of sources, so we could show off how much can be done with ROSAT data quite quickly

Rather than selecting random entries from a ROSAT catalog, how about a cross match between an M dwarf catalog and 2RXS, then analysing them?

Though stars might be more complicated because they can wander off.

The 'CARMENES input catalogue of M dwarfs' (https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2015A%26A...577A.128A/abstract) might be good. 112 of its entries have a match with a 2RXS source within 10 arcseconds, 37 within 5 arcseconds.
