Propagation Suggestions #1896

Two suggestions related to propagation when doing an online validation.

  1. Where a verbatim place of birth is incorrect due to error made by transcriber or proofreader (not enumeator) I will edit that verbatim place of birth. And chances are, if a POB has been transcribed incorrectly, then the same error is likely to appear again in the same piece (or at least the same enumeation district). At present, if such an error is repeated elswhere in the piece, then I have to edit the vebatim name each time it appears, there are no propogation options for changes to verbatim place names. As such, being able to apply that correction to all other entries affect by the same error in one go would save time.

  2. When I come a cross an entry with an unknown verbatim place of birth, and no suitable alternative place of birth is available, then I will accept it as is to clear the warning on that entry. However, if that place name appears again, then I have to accept it each time. Would rather be able to accept an unknown place the once, and have it clear the warnings on all other entries with the same place name. in one go.

  • For example, if I am validating a Welsh pieces then I can be sure that a place name such as Llanfair, or Llanfihangel will appear in the piece, not if it it appears, but how oftfen. And I can also be sure that without some clue, the warning on place names like these cannot be resolved as there will just be no way of knowing which of the variants that it applies to.

Would expect that the ability to do the above remain within the piece (or at least enumeation district)
