Short description: I'm loving this mod from everything I've played with it so far, but I had an idea to build a home out of the dark blood brick block, before realizing how tediously expensive it was to make in survival. I'd love if there was either an easier way to get dark gems for it, or a non-functional, decorative version of it that was easier to craft in bulk, even if it required doing something like putting blackstone bricks in the blood infuser. I don't know how difficult that would be to implement or anything, or if work is even still being done with the mod, to be honest, but it'd make the build a lot easier, and be a relief to not have to mine thousands of dark ore.

So would you be suggesting a cheaper alternative block with a similar palette, or to add an alternative way to make the existing block that is cheaper, or alternately would you say you'd leave that choice up to the developer?

Either or, really. I didn't know it was the block used to make the spirit furnace, and I believe that might be why the developer made it need a dark block in order to craft every four bricks, to provide some limit to how quickly you could build lots of furnaces for various mobs and the like. I wouldn't want to cheapen the accomplishment of getting multiple spirit furnaces, as it is a rather expensive process, even if only slightly, and time consuming.

It's up to the developer how they proceed with things, if they do at all, obviously, but I like the appearance of the dark bricks with the blood red between them a lot. Perhaps the alternative could just use the polished blackstone bricks block, and add in the blood red color between the bricks after putting it through the blood infuser? That way it's different from the furnace multiblock structure, and still requires a decent bit of progression to get, while not being so time or resource costly if someone wants to use them for building larger constructions.
