Try to find a useful way to get people to sign up to email alerts so they have a way to return to your site.

This needs more thought and refinement obviously but it's a really important aspect of all civic projects I've worked on. Email alerts are how you bring people back to your site so that it doesn't just become something interesting they once saw and never return to (and therefore never realise the full benefit of the project).
