I'm stuck on this too. The README lists the files you need but nothing about how to actually get them out of a disc image, and the XA stuff in particular is not coming out with any normal PS1 ripping tool.

For what it's worth, here's where I've gotten. BIGFILE.BIG and SOUNDS/KART.HWL come out fine with a standard rip. The problem is TEST.STR and the whole XA/ tree (ENG.XNF and the S00.XA files). On a USA disc (SCUS-94426) those live in a directory that standard tools either skip entirely or choke on. dumpsxiso (which the repo's own third-party notices point at as the extraction tool) only finds 4 files by default and warns about a big gap at the end of the filesystem. Its -f flag does nothing different, and -pt hangs forever at "Parsing directory tree."

The data is definitely there. If you dump the raw image around the right offset you can see the entries (ENG.XNF;1, \XA\MUSIC\S00.XA;1, \XA\ENG\EXTRA\S00.XA;1, \XA\ENG\GAME\S00.XA;1), they're just in a directory layout the rippers don't handle.
So a documented extraction procedure, or a script, would help a lot of people. Right now it feels like there's an assumed step everyone's missing. Could a dev share exactly how they produced their own assets/ folder?

So to help a little bit out. If you're on an Unix-based or Unix-like machine (macOS, GNU/Linux) you can use this command here:
iat --iso -i ctr.bin -o ctr.iso

This converts the actual contents of the disc into an image that you can then mount onto your system. From there you can look up the required files as needed and copy/paste them.

On Windows, you can probably use WSL or a VM to get this working. As for a solution that works natively on Windows, you could probably also use bchunk (https://github.com/extramaster/bchunk) since that has a native Windows port, and use something like bchunk file.bin file.cue file.iso to get the desired results (and then see if mounting the iso works).

My testing has only gotten as far as iat though so YMMV. As long as you find a way to mount a valid copy, it shouldn't be that much of an issue.

@DaBigJGit @cerroverb @rockmanomega I used this program https://github.com/Lameguy64/mkpsxiso I download the program under releases the mkpsxiso-2.20-win64.zip file.

‎Then I got this after extracting the .zip file.

I clicked and dragged my legally dumped game bin file onto dumpsxiso.exe.

Then it popped up with a command prompt and started extracting.

After that done it created a new folder where the rom of the game bin and cue are.

Those are the extracted game files you need. Copy every file in that folder.

Now after downloading this project under releases you should have this.

Create a asset folder in that folder.

Paste you're copied files inside the asset folder.

Now run this exe and it should be good to go.

You should now she this and be able to play the game.

The latest version of Disc Xplorer can extract the files too an is a bit more user friendly.
