Revert Kotatsu's homophobic inclusion of queer categories in it's "highlight dangerous categories" functionality #5

Describe your suggested feature

Created this issue which has been dealt with on Kotatsu-Redo: Kotatsu-Redo#18, just spotted this fork Futon from F-droid so want to also point out to yourself.

The "Highlight dangerous categories": "Highlight genres that may be inappropriate for most users", is a function that's on by default in the "Manga sources" settings page.

The feature is homophobia guised as a "safety" feature which as can be seen from this revert commit of the feature from Kotatsu-Redo: Kotatsu-Redo@4062048, it DOES contain a heck tonne of dangerous stuff (though be it even that not nearly anywhere near enough to be actually about safety what is there beyond queer tags in that long list of categories.. but you'll also find endless queer and related tags such as "Yaoi" (Boy Love) for instance as such shown in the linked issue on Kotatsu-Redo.

It's simply blatant homophobia. It's definitely not a safety feature, bundling in all the actual bad stuff was clearly an afterthought to downplay queer content being the target. If you look at the actual functionality.. all it is doing is adding a highlight on the "dangerous" tags on the associated manga's description page. It doesn't hide such "dangerous" manga from searches, from appearing when you scroll through, so hey a manga with actual gore in the cover image comes into the results, what good does this tag highlight achieve in that situation where you've already been subjected to the content.

Sure it may stop someone from clicking to read the manga if the dangerous content isn't front stage like that but in the manga.. but then the massive majority of these mangas are pretty lacking with their tags anyway. Like how many mangas have triggering aspects like regarding suicide and things amongst the story and there's nothing to suggest you're walking into that.

It's more harmful than any tiny bit of good this "highlight dangerous categories" feature. It serves only the original maintainer's homophobia because they just didn't want to accidently be stumbling upon and reading queer manga, and they just couldn't keep that to themselves.

So I would like to request to yourself as well with your fork, please revert this homophobic feature like Kotatsu-Redo maintainer had done so. Queerphobia has no place.

Better functionality for "safety" is categorising sources by safe to nsfw to dangerous etc, with dangerous sources disabled by default.. aka the obscure sources you probably are going to go out your way anyway to stumble on the vast majority of those actual morbid tags in that dangerous categories list since the more reputable sources just doesn't have those kinds of tags. Other functionality would be keyword filtering functionality you can put whatever you want to filter what you don't want.. but then as like mentioned on the linked issue, that's going to not really be viable due to you'd immediately run into rate limits of sources. So the categorisation of sources based on reputability would be the better bet. It'd be miles ahead in contributing to safety than a feature that creates only false sense of safety through it only being a safety feature as it's guise when it's nothing more than blatant petty queerphobia at play.
