SSO configuration failure, configuration page jquery returns error 500 when attempting to setup any sso modules.

when attempting to configure any of the OAuth SSO configurations, the settings page remains unresponsive when attempting to select an option to input the keys and enable the SSO. when checking the web-console of the browser, server responds with
jquery.min.js:2 500 (Internal Server Error)

In the browser's developer console in the network tab click on the request that has the 500 error and check the preview to see what it says.
