Cannot list connected players

I cannot list connected player with either connected, or playercount commands.

Server is up and running.
When using; /etc/init.d/minecraft screen, I can list players by typing in 'list'

But:
root@xxxx:# /etc/init.d/minecraft connected --> Returns nothing
root@xxxx:# /etc/init.d/minecraft playercount ---> Returns Zero

After these commands I can see that in screen there's two calls for 'list'
