What's the inputs of ICD coding model? Single or multiple notes?

Thank you for your excellent work. I have a question regarding the inputs of ICD coding model.

I noticed that the same hadm_id may correspond to multiple note_id entries. Besides, the dataset splits are organized by hadm_id. For evaluating model performance on the MDACE dataset, should I provide a single note at a time as input, or should I include multiple notes associated with the same admission?

Glad you found the work helpful! A hospital admission (defined by a hadm_id) can be associated with multiple documents. For evaluation, you can either provide a single note (e.g., just the discharge summary) or combine multiple notes from the same admission. The choice depends on how you design and run your model. In our experiments, we explored both: one model used only discharge summaries for training and evaluation, while another incorporated all codable documents (e.g., physician notes, radiology reports, and discharge summaries). Tables 8 and 9 in the paper correspond to these two cases, respectively.
