Hi there,
First off, thank you for building HDR + WCG Image Viewer. It's one of the few tools on Windows that reliably displays HDR content across formats like AVIF and HEIC. I’m a OnePlus 13 user and I’ve run into a challenge that I think your viewer could help solve.
The OnePlus 13 uses a proprietary HDR rendering layer called ProXDR, which embeds HDR metadata into standard image formats like JPEG and HEIC. These images look stunning on the phone, but when transferred to Windows 11 24H2 even with HDR enabled they render as SDR because the ProXDR metadata isn’t recognized by most viewers.
I’d love to see HDR + WCG Image Viewer support the following:
-
ProXDR metadata parsing: Recognize and interpret HDR metadata embedded by OnePlus in JPEG and HEIC images.
-
HDR rendering for ProXDR-tagged files: Display these images in full HDR on HDR-capable monitors.
-
Conversion to open HDR formats: Provide an option to convert ProXDR images to AVIF, JPEG XL, or even Ultra HDR JPEG (which uses .jpg with embedded gain maps).
-
Ultra HDR export: If feasible, allow exporting to Ultra HDR JPEGs for compatibility with Android 14+ and future Windows updates. This would be a huge win for OnePlus users and anyone dealing with proprietary HDR formats. I’d be happy to provide sample images or help test if needed.
Thanks again for your work - HDR Image Viewer is already ahead of the curve and this feature would make it even more indispensable.
